 De Duitse proeflocomotief 12X 128 001-5 van toen der tijd eigendom van ADtrans aan het begin van haar

tweede leven. De lok staat naast de BLS Re 465 018-0 te Depot Spiez 7 oktober 1997.

De 12X is door AEG in 1994 gebouwd en is de voorloper van de DB BR 101. Door een fusie ronde kwam 

de lok onder beheer van ADtrans. In 1997 werd een gehele nieuwe tractie installatie ingebouwd, officieel in 
Winterthur echter de 12X was al vanaf eind juli 1997 in BLS Werkstätte te Speiz om de ombouw te 
voltooien en gereed te maken voor proefritten welke bij de BLS plaats zouden gaan vinden.
Met inbouw van de nieuw te testen tractie installatie werd de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe generatie goederen
locomotieven serie 145 en 185 daadwerkelijk vorm gegeven. De 12X was meer dan een jaar onafge-
broken te gast bij de BLS en vanaf half oktober 1997 tot begin september 1998 werd een uitgebreid test
programma afgewerkt. Ook daarna was de 12X enige perioden te gast bij de BLS met uitvalsbasis wederom
Depot Spiez. Met deze achtergrond is het dus niet meer zo verwonderlijk dat toen de SBB behoefte had aan
nieuwe machines richting de serie 185 te kijken. De SBB had wel specifieke wensen en jawel in de zomer 
2001 reed de 12X wederom proefritten bij de BLS. Inmiddels zijn we een fusie ronde verder en prijkt de 
naam van Bombardier op de machine. 
In de laatste week van november 2002 is de nieuwe BLS Re 485 001 afgeleverd in depot Spiez. De Re 485
is net als de SBB Re 482 rechtstreeks afgeleid van de DB Cargo serie 185 en is als twee frequentie machine
(16 2/3 en 50 Hz) toegelaten in Zwitserland en Duitsland. Met het testprogramma uitgevoerd op Zwitsers 
grondgebied heeft de proeflocomotief 12X de basis gelegd voor de SBB Re 482 en BLS Re 485.
Van de SBB Re 485 zijn er reeds 10 machines in dienst en nog eens 40 stuks besteld. Met de BLS 
Re 485 001 is het begin gemaakt van de uitlevering van 10 machines.
Binnen kort komt op deze site een special over de 12X te gast bij de BLS.
    
The German test locomotive 12 X 128 001-5 was owned by ADTrans, these days and at the beginning of its second
life. It stays next to BLS Re 465 018-0 at the Spiez maintenance shed on October the 7 th 1997.
The 12X has been built by AEG in 1994 and is the ancestor of the DB 101-class. Because of a reorganization the loco
came under ADTrans supervision. In 1999 a completely new electrical equipment had been fitted, officially managed by the
Winterthur plant, however the 12X had been taken to the BLS shed at Spiez for finishing off the modifications and get the
loco ready for test duties at the BLS network.
While testing the new electrical equipment, the development of the new freight locomotive generation (class 145 and 185)
had commenced. The 12X stayed for more than a year at BLS and from the 2nd half of October 1997 to the start of
September 1998 a extensive test programme had been worked out.
Also after that, the 12X was BLS's guest, and again having Spiez as its base location. Looking at this background it not
surprising that - when there was a need to SBB for new machines - the 185 class had been considered. SBB had realy
special requirements. So, yes, summer 2001 the 12X came back for a additional series of test trips at the BLS network.
In the mean time, another reorganization at the locomotive industry had taken place, and now the name of Bombardier
shows on the locomotive sides. Last week of November 2002 the new BLS Re 485 001 has been delivered at the Spiez
depot. The Re 485 is derived directly from DB Carco class 185, just like SBB Re 482. It is a dual system loco
(2 frequencies 16 2/3 Hz and 50 Hz) and is able to operate in Switzerland and Germany.
After all these test programmes, carried out inside the Swiss borders, the test-locomotive 12X acted as a basic design for
SBB Re 482 and BLS Re 485. The SBB Re 485 class consists now of 10 machines taken into service and another 40 has
been ordered. Witch the delivery of BLS Re 485 001 a start has been made for more machines,a total of 10.
