The MMX can be interpreted that the aether exists as follows: The mirrors at the end of the arms acted as sources and the speed of light is independent of the motion of the source and thus no fringe shift when the apparatus is rotated to different directions. Furthermore, the true cause of the null result is that the apparatus is in a state of absolute motion in the vertical direction. This means that the light path length from each mirror remains the same in all orientations of the arms and therefore no fringe shift. |
