Henri Wilson: According to SR light speed is source dependent. How strange! (7-Feb-2002) |
If light speed (v) is dependent of source velocity (u), we would normally write v=u+c where c is light speed relative to its source. However, using the SR formula for addition of velocities, we must use: v = (u+c)/(1+uc/c^2) = c(u+c)/(c+u) = c This means that if we accept that light speed is source dependent and relativity is correct, then light from any source will always appear to move at c, wrt any observer. There seems to be something amiss here. Doesn't this simply demonstrate, in a roundabout way, that an equation derived from the theory based on the second postulate actually PROVES the second postulate - if and only if light speed IS source dependent? How strange! |
