Diversity Gallery
Diversity gallery is an idea that I had when I started read about Serendipity during Thinking and Reasoning lessons. It’s a board of opinions and moods that shows how Innovation is such a relative and diverse concept.
I believe that diversity is crucial to reach Innovations and to accelerate the conditions that lead to "enlightening intuitions", that’s why I went to the city center of Amsterdam to interview random people that belong to completely different backgrounds, was pretty impressive to see their reactions, then I took a picture of them and I created this sharing-ideas board.
Through random events and contests around the cities we can gather a lot of information and different ideas that can perceive an issue or a topic from many and extensive points of view. The aim behind this project is my personal belief and faith in diversity as an excellent way to create innovations. How?
Through connecting with other cultures, with people that are doing completely opposite things and that apparently haven’t got nothing in common, that’s how we can increase the opportunities of serendipity happens, we can incite sorts of “happy accidents” by conglomerate many different minds reunited under a selected Topic! The key, in my personal opinion, is sharing insights and ideas as much as possible also in ordinary situations, not only in meetings or specific environments.
I think that Innovations are just around the corner but the most of the time we are too close to see them so we just need a little help from another perception that might see that from another point of view. It’s a multidirectional process that needs the help of many fields of knowledge and disciplines. If you think about it, more brains, with broad and different backgrounds, working together can increase tremendously (statistically speaking) the possibilities to find new amazing innovations. Moreover is a creative idea to keep people together, establish new friendships or to discover something new. This is the magic of human beings of our wonderful species that can be so colorful.
Nowadays thanks to the globalization process we are living in a very multicultural society, that’s why a good method to improve the integration problem could be the cooperation through projects or topics.
The Diversity Gallery is a project that was born with the aim of seeking and capturing all the different and various shadows of the concept of Innovation. However now is changing dynamically, evolving in something that can really generate new fresh ideas among very diverse minds.
I believe in serendipity! I think it is a great source of inspiration that can trigger a brainwave. I found out this article that could clarify many studies that are currently going across this subject, hence I really suggest you to read it: "Engineering Serendipity". That's why I organised this free contest. Furthermore was a good experiment also because I've seen many different people's reactions , for instance, many were afraid and they didn't want to participate, others were gladly fascinating and they share their opinion supporting with enthusiasm the project. That's why I want to continue this project dynamically modifying it and wondering for new cool contests and ideas boards. Looking forward..
