Meta-skills

During this period I have learned about meta-skills. Before looking at my meta-skills I had to know what it was all about. It turns out that the meta-skills are divided in five different categories. These categories are explained in this report.

Define

The first meta-skill is to define. During this period I have made a lot of use of this skill. It all starts with the kick-off week. A lot of assessments during this week consisted of defining. For instance, during this week we had a major assignment on a problem that irritates people. My group chose for the topic of how annoying YouTube commercials are. To define the problem we had to dive deep in to the case. This meant that we had to do a lot of research on finding possible solutions. It really helped me in a way to see what I can still improve in the weeks after that of defining a problem. With the information found we had to choose whether it was useful or not. At the end we came up with a lot of facts about the how to tackle the problem.

Another example of the usage of the skill define, was during the class what is in my backpack. We had to define ourselves during this class. This really taught me how to use this skill very effectively, because I know off course almost everything about myself so I can make a clear distinction on how I would define myself.

In the future I want to learn more about defining certain things. I think to be honest that I can still improve this skill on a lot of levels. During this course I am expecting to develop this skill even more so that when I am graduated I can use this skill effectively in business.

Design

During this period I had to design a massive amount of things. With this I do not mean that I actually executed the designed matters, but I planned and thought of a lot of scenarios to create something. Not only did I build scenarios, as an activity of the skill design, I did a massive amount of brainstorming. For instance, for the project of International world of Business, I had to do a lot of research to actually get the appropriate information to get the appropriate content of the project. With this project I also used a lot of prototyping, by making a lot of test poster to make a successful finalized version.

Execute

This skill I used the most during both my business classes, and a little bit during what is in my backpack. By generating ideas, and to actually implement my thought about it, I can honestly say I have used this skill a lot. For my fundamentals of business assessments (making a business model canvas), I have implemented the most of my ideas. By analyzing business cases it was easier for me to execute a lot of ideas I had. For what is in my backpack, I had to make a master plan. I implemented the skill set that I had discovered during the lessons to be able to come up with a relevant and effective business plan.

Learn

This whole first term was a learning process for me. During this term I have taken part in a massive amount of activities to collect data and to learn from it. During class, I made a lot of use of questioning and observing so that I gain a lot of knowledge about the unknown and therefore learn from it.

Looking back on the first term I have learned the most from all the reflections I had to write. This really made me define what I have learned and whether I need to improve on certain things. It has learned me a lot about myself, which actions I need to take, which actions I take and whether I did it properly.

Lead

I have not worked a lot on this skill during the first term. It is however a skill I want to improve on since I do not have a lot of leading skills. The only leading I have done this term was to motivate myself and other students to finish their assessments. This I have accomplished by coming up with the argument that in the end it will all be worth it.
