Hi, this is me

A picture of me

Hi, I am Vivian Nguyen, you can also call me Vi. I was born and raised in Vietnam. On my 18th birthday, which was 2 months ago, I got on a plane which headed to Holland from my home country, all by myself. It was a memorable experience, something that marked my life because during 18 years I've never really had a chance to travel somewhere else without my family.

Being in Holland is :

  • A challenge : How do you feel about moving to a whole new place which takes 11 hours travel by plane from your country ? About making a complete fresh start at place not your home, leaving everything behind, your family, your friends, your favorite foods that you won't be able to eat them for a long long time ? You come to a country where people speak a extreme new language, not the ones that are your mother language or you learnt at school, where there are a lot of dissimilarites in life styles, cultures, etc. The hardest thing for me is not changing, adapting, get used to new things but leaving everything which is the most familiar with me in 18 years, being apart from my beloved family and friends.
  • A chance :the time for me to step out of my comfort zone has finally come. It's time for me to have a independent and responsible life, no more parents or grandma is there to take care of me when I am down or sick, I need to be stronger, the only one I can count on forever is myself. They say that "Travel broadens the mind", it's true because live in another country not your home which means you will get chance to meet new people, make new friends, Try new foods, experience new cultures, seeing new sigh ; it also gives you experience and perspective. Above are my motivations to get me going, trying and overcoming the fear of challenges.
