Second Dutch Workshop on
Molecular Systems Biology

Tuesday, January 20 - Wednesday, January 21, 2004

The workshop will bring together scientists of different disciplines that work on integrated biological systems, including biologists, physicists, chemists, mathematicians and informaticists.
The program will concentrate on:
- dutch spearheads that are developing in this field, including Lactobacillus, yeast, the silicon cell
- analysis of biological networks
- the use and integration of X-omics data
- the use of system biology approaches in industry, medicine, and nutrition
- developments in Europe, Japan, and the US
- challenges and outlook for dutch systems biology initiatives

participation, including board and lodging, is free
deadline for application: december 14, 2003

molecular systems biology course preceding the workshop

Molecular systems biology aims at understanding of biological phenomena based on the quantitative analysis of chemical and physical processes at the molecular level. Systems biology analyses and integrates complex molecular processes. Ultimately, this should result in a full understanding of cells, tissues and organisms in terms of molecular interactions. Systems biology approaches involve quantitative modeling of molecular systems. Predictions from such models allows one to define critical experiments to test the model and advance our understanding. This iterative approach combining modeling and  wet lab experiments is typical for systems biology.
By its very nature, systems biology is a highly interdisciplinary approach towards understanding complex biological processes. This course and workshop intends to introduce scientists into this nationally and internationally rapidly developing field.
