Art?
Self-taught
I did not follow an art education, painting or drawing course.
Creativity is something that has always been in me, which also came in handy when I was still working as a pedagogical employee in a daycare center.
I did not paint anyting until September 2021.
All I had at home were once received brushes and used tubes of acrylic paint, and I had a used canvas.
I learn a lot from videos on the internet, and if I want to master a new technique, or I run into something, I look online for information.
I find it difficult to draw and paint buildings, and I haven't really done painting without an example to date (2025), I find that difficult...
But I keep practicing.
My inspiration
Photography is another hobby and I can combine it nicely with painting!
When I am on the road, I sometimes come across something that I find inspiring and then I capture it.
The painting is never exactly like the photo or image, I leave something out, change something or add something.
But I also use photos of friends and acquaintances (with permission) and every now and then a request comes in to paint something.
Another source of inspiration is an artificial intelligence (AI) that creates an image based on keywords.
Materials and techniques
I search the internet for free or cheap (used) usable canvases and paint, and every now and then something comes in at Thriftstore Hoevelaken,
which I can buy for a good price, or people come to our house to give me materials, so sweet!
I use different painting techniques, palette knife, brush, sponge and of course my fingers.
It's a challenge to try new painting techniques and see how I can improve my skills.
There are also lots of painting mediums I can use to make paint thinner or thicker without losing quality.
Great fun discovering all that!
It also happens that I'm working on a painting and it really doesn't work, so I just start again, maybe twice, or I put it away to paint something else over it later.
I often work on two paintings at the same time, that way the paint from one dries while I work on the other, and it prevents me from having some kind of
blind spot for a painting.
This is a bit like painting a wall white, at some point you can't see the thin or skipped areas.
With the paint drying, I regularly turn the canvas upside down and look at it, or look at the painting through a mirror, or on my phone,
then often notice what still needs (a lot of) attention.
I really enjoy exploring and trying out different techniques, possibilities and, above all, my limits!
Initially, I painted with cheap acrylic paint, but I quickly ran into the limitations of that paint.
I have now opted for Talens Cobra water-soluble oil paint and Talens acrylic paint.
Art-Loan
During Art route Hoevelaken, which I participated in for the second time, people asked if I also sell paintings.
I hadn't actually given this much thought, because I am a beginner and I haven't been painting for long.... Who would want to give money for my attempts?
But at the other hand, what to do with all those paintings?
And how nice is it that someone likes my painting so much that they want to buy it!
I was very impressed how another participant in the Art Route ‘sold’ his art, and was lending art to try out from art route to the
art route the following year.
That gave me the idea of free art lending (for large canvases), for a year, also between one year's Art Route and the next.
That way people can see if they still like the painting after a year and want to buy it, or for example, it no longer looks good after changing wall colour or whatever, it comes back to me and someone else can borrow or buy it.
Pricing
I have the paintings appraised by an auction house, they give an estimated value to the painting.
If a person wants to buy it after a year, they may transfer the amount given to it by the auction house to charity.
I don't want any money for it myself!
It is always possible to purchase a copy of a painting, it can then be printed on whatever surface the buyer wants.
The cost of printing is for the buyer, after printing I will sign it.
I paint for good causes
My husband said the wise words: if you have enough, how nice it is when you can share your wealth with another...
And I couldn't agree more, and so the idea of having my paintings valued and having that amount transferred to charity was born.
That way I am happy that I could paint, the person in question is happy with the painting, the charity is happy with the money and the persons supported
are supported by the charity feel -hopefully- seen and supported.
How many people are made happy by one painting?

After the text you will find my most recent work at the top, and the further down you scroll, the further back in time you go to the first painting I made in 2021.
The paintings are on the left, the examples are on the right.
If a painting has been lent out or moved, it is mentioned.
The paintings I made from October 2024 onwards will come online after the Hoevelaken 2025 art route.
