- PLAY: The Real Inspector Hound
- WRITTEN BY: Tom Stoppard
- ABSTRACT OF THE PLAY: The Real Inspector Hound has all the elements for a hilarious
and exciting evening in the theatre. Two theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot,
come to review the first performance of a play. The play they are watching
is even more Agatha Christie than Agatha Christie herself and abounds with
the delightful cliches of the whodunnit genre.
A dangerous madman is hiding in the surroundings of Muldoon Manor, where Lady Cynthia
Muldoon lives, together with Mrs Drudge, the help, Felicity Cunningham,
a friend, and major Magnus Muldoon, the crippled half brother of Lord Albert
Muldoon, Cynthia's husband, who has been missing for ten years. Suddenly
the mysterious Simon Gascoyne drops in. The critics pay no heed: Birdboot
is more interested in the leading lady, while Moon can't stop worrying
about the fact that he is a mere stand-in for Higgs, another critics.
Then a body is found... But who is it? Inspector Hound appears on the scene to solve
the mystery. When everyone leaves the house to find the killer, Simon is
shot. On stage the phone rings... When Birdboot goes to pick it up, the
game commences. Can the dritics distinguish fact from fiction? The critics
become actors, the actors critics. But who is the killer?

- PLAY: Popcorn
- WRITTEN BY: Ben Elton
- ABSTRACT OF THE PLAY: Set in the Beverley Hills home of Tarantino-style, Oscar-winning, movie director Bruce Delamitri, Popcorn is a satirical comedy thriller with the firing capacity of a hit squad. When notorious killers Wayne and Scout interrupt Bruce's passionate introduction to Brooke Daniels (nude model and actress), they want more than an autograph from their cinematic idol. Wayne intends to use Bruce's 'art' as justification for murder. Events are disrupted with the arrival of Karla Brezner (Bruce's producer) and Farrah Delamitri (Bruce's soo-to-be-ex-wife) with spoilt teenage daughter, Velvet. But Wayne means to succeed - whatever the cost. How often have you heard the line "They really should do something about...". You have probably said it yourself. Blame, transferred onto the mysterious "them", safely distances us from the problem and all members of the conversation can nod sagely in relief that it's not their problem either... So what happens when an infamous murdering duo take a movie director hostage and claim it's his movies that are to blamer for their actions? What if the blame lies on the movie-goers who clamour for the thrill of a murderous movie? What if it's you, coming to see this play? In his book become play, Popcorn, Ben Elton pulls no puncehes as he satirically explores the issue of "'art' as justification for murder", the social repercussions of living in a self-absorved Western society, and a lot more besides.
