Siem Riep
I arrived at Siem Riep airport. We just flew in in an old two propeller Fokker, Dutch finest. Excited as I was about getting to a new country, it was a huge change. We were now in a country with a very horrible and not so old history, they managed to survive under a regime that shouldn’t have never had a chance to do what they did. The people who live there on the other hand, they enjoy all expects of life to forget this cruel event.
In Siem Riep we visited the famous Angor Wat temples. Which is a temple complex about 400Km². we heard that the best way to do that was by Tuk-Tuk, which are motorcycles with a kind of cart behind it to carry more people. They picked us up at around 5 am to take us to one of the temples to see sun rise. After that we saw more and more temples until it was almost time and finished at Angor Wat (capital temple) itself. Astonishing sight..!
Pnohm Pehn
In Pnohm Pehn we visited the killing fields, also by Tuk-Tuk. Which is a monument to all the people who lost their lives under the regime of Pol Pot, there are many more of these monuments. This monument was basically one of the places where Pol Pot killed all the people who, he thought, were against him. In total he killed over 2 million of his own fellow countryman. Just walking there gives you the creeps and send cold shivers over your spine.
Koh Rong
After Pnohm Pehn I went to the far south of Cambodia, towards Sihanouk and took a boat from there to the beautiful island Koh Rong. This sand island had only little wooden houses on it and it was just 1 strip on the beach. On the other side of the island was a beach, called long beach.
