This officebuilding was build in 1923, in an American style of that time.
It was the main office of the 'Nederlandse Handelsmaatschappij' (Dutch Trade Society) that for a
long time held the monopoly on trade with the Dutch East Indies.
(It was called 'Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie' (United Eastindia Company) then.
Later on the 'Nederlandse Handelsmaatschappij' became a banking firm.
Today the building is empty; it will house the city-archives in the future.
