In IWob the Define part was crucial, both in the general subject matters and also in some specific areas, for example the poster consisted of the oral explanation about an economic event of our choice, here the Meta-Skill Define was definetly necessary, I had to expand my research capabilities and my understanding of quite a few topics in order to fully understand which economic event could adapt better to the various components that we were told we had to include in our discussion and analysis of the event , if I hadn’t been able to define well what the perquisites were and what we had to do exactly there wouldn’t have been an execute step after .
In regard to FoB, we had to first of all define the various components of the canvas, to define all the structure and the functioning of the BMC, and after finally having defined everything, when you have to try it on another company you have to understand and define where the information you have will now fit into our BMC, through analysis we have to understand what are the things that mostly impact the company, in this step both internal and external influences and impacts are considered, if I could define what we are asked to do in FoB with only one word I would say Define.
In English personally I think that we could resume the define meta skill in finding and solving problems, in this case problems related with communication and language issues, if I hadn’t moved away form Milan last year to go to an English speaking country, I would not be here now. I still have many difficulties with English due to my dyslexia mostly, but I am very determinate towards learning more and more, by being able to define what I couldn’t do and what I had mope problems with I was able to know what I need to study more and what I need to correct and learn more about over time. Sometimes it’s hard for me to understand where I am making a mistake, if it’s in the grammar , or the structure of the sentence or if it just doesn’t make sense. To get better in my English I need to define all my problems with it and then get to work on those issues.
The define part of HTML is also the definition of problems and the solutions to those problems, we make so many mistakes the first time we try something, but we need to be able to understand what we didn’t understand and what we did wrong in order to learn from our mistakes and the ones of others, it is a continuous learning process , we keep learning and making our website better at every class and now we have the tools we need to make our own. I think that this subject can be said as practical but in it’s own different dimension.
In these two subjects, in my point of view the real aim is to define and clarify how we should and need to apply what we learn to our everyday situations, by saying this I mean that we should be able to learn and apply everything that is taught to us in class in order to fully understand the reason it is taught to us, in the class we have had to think emotively about new situations, we had obstacles to overcome and a lot to explore about ourselves, in this case the art of defining was about defining our personal goals and discovering our personality.
In information skills we had to do a lot of work about defining in class, especially when we were asked to make mind maps, I think that mind maps show the essence of a topic, and all the other things that are someway linked to that first general topic, every part of the map is defining a detail of the general topic , mind mapping is all about getting a central topic and then seeing what is around by defining what is around the topic and putting it into context.
