We Dutch have our extreme-Righteous and Complacency side (the source of the Dutch phrase Dutch Uncle) which we all the time successfully get into the news. But besides that there is the passion of Pioneering, the Adventure, Inventiveness, Down-to-earth and last but not least our famous as well as notorious Traders mentality. All this may explain the amazing amount of influence this rather small historic community has and had on the world, and I'm gladly show them to you . . . . . with a smile and a tear. |
Wij Hollanders hebben onze extreem-Rechtvaardige en Zelfgenoegzame zijde (de bron van de uitdrukking Dutch Uncle) welke we keer op keer succesvol in het nieuws krijgen. Daarnaast hebben we ook onze Pioniersdrift, Avontuurszin, Inventiviteit, Nuchterheid en niet te vergeten onze zowel beroemde als beruchte Handelsgeest. Dit verklaart mogelijk de verbazend grote invloed die zo'n tamelijk kleine historische gemeenschap op deze wereld had en heeft, en ik wil ze U graag laten zien . . . . . met een lach en een traan. |

Amsterdam is clearly present on the web: the government with general information, the library, the artforms and the universities. The touristical information and most other sites are all glorifying Amsterdam. It looks like this beautiful city has not a single problem and that its administration does nothing but good work. Are the blunders and mistakes then of such a non-importance that they don't make it to the web? Here I show them to you; we must be able to learn something. About the local television, there are some good replies on local events and politics (not on the at5 station). But without a selective tv guide it is not worth the effort to find them. |

Amsterdam is zeer duidelijk op het web aanwezig: de overheid met algemene info, de bibliotheek, de kunsten en de universiteiten. Toeristische en andere sites zijn vol lof over Amsterdam. Het lijkt wel dat de stad geen problemen heeft en haar bestuur enkel goed werk kan verrichten. Zijn de begane flaters en fouten dan van zodanig belang dat ze het web niet bereiken? Toch wil ik ze U niet onthouden; we kunnen er iets van te leren. Wat de lokale tv betreft geeft deze, in tegen-stelling tot at5, goede repliek op lokale gebeurtenissen en politiek. Het is echter wel een ontzettende doolhof en zonder een selektieve tv-gids verspilde moeite. |
