IMAGES ABOUT THE VIDEO-WORKS AND
THE FALSE LANDSCAPE-GENERATING DEVICE

The VIDEO-WORKS of False Landscapes are produced by the use of current technological means. These videos must be presented simultaneously using looping tapes on video monitors or using a videobeam for projection on to a white wall. Because of the nature of the presentation, similar to the FALSE LANDSCAPE-GENERATING DEVICE by Laszlo Kerekes, the images cannot be adequately depicted photographically. Even a video documentation can only serve as a simulation and cannot convey a first hand experience of the original presentation.

The False Landscape-generating device (with the simulated images from the video-works of this project):

Parts > one stand, of metal, height 63 in
one slow electric motor, 2.5-3 rpm
one revolving transparent frame, 6 by 9 in

The device stands in front of one wall of the exhibit space. A video projector projects digitalized looping motives of the False Landscapes, captured by panning camera motion, onto the same wall. The viewer uses the revolving observation frame, set up at eye level, to experience the project. A reduced graphical image of my body appears in the middle of the viewfinder, on the double glass pane. Sand, captured between the two affixed panes, is being washed by a blueish-greenish liquid that constantly rearranges the grains into ever newer shapes. The viewframe and the projected image revolve in opposite direction. The viewframe serves as a window or as a screen. Based on the work of time, it provides for random and graphically always unique optical changes of the False Landscape motive.
