Our name, Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood,
explains exactly what we are about.
Missionary: The sisters work where there is a need for
them, especially,
- where the people don't yet know, or no longer know, the Good
News of the Gospel;
- where there is a need for social, educational and pastoral
work;
- where there is a need for the example of a life lived in
the spirit of Christ,
- as a way of helping to work towards peace and justice in
the world, and especially where this affects women and children;
- where the local church still needs help in order to become
more autonomous.
The Precious Blood in our name reminds us of the redeeming
love of Christ, who gave his Blood for us. We wish to share in
that joy! Our founders, Abbot Francis
and Mother Paula, left us with many of the sayings
they loved to use. A selection of these reveals something of the
spirituality of the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood:
- "When the sisters go out to meet people in their homes
[in Africa] they should come across as be devout, diligent, pious,
obedient and full of joy. No one achieves anything by being coarse
or sad or by grumbling." (Abbot Francis
Pfanner)
- "When someone does her work with an eager heart it will
also be done with love and great care." (Mother
Paula)
- "No one has better described the attributes of the virtuous
woman than King Solomon (Pr 31). The virtuous woman is practical,
she is understanding, she is as industrious as a bee, she is
always busy, she is courageous, and she is generous with what
she has." (Abbot Francis)
- "Lont nit lugg ! Don't let go, don't give up!"
(Abbot Francis)
- "Each of us, each sister, should be like a lit torch
so that the flame can rise higher and its fire conquer all."
(Abbot Francis)
- "Our Mission is the Kingdom of God, and that Kingdom
has no borders." (Abbot Francis)
