    Turkey is situated on two continents: Europe and Asia. The European side, Thrace called, occupies 3% of the surface of Turkey. The rest, called Anatolia, is located in Asia. At the point where Europe and Asia meet, is Istanbul. Istanbul is the only city in the world that lies on two continents.


    The Black Sea region This is a mountainous area in northern Turkey. The summers are hot and winters are mild. The rainfall is distributed throughout the year. There are a lot of hazelnuts grown, an important export product for Turkey. Tobacco and cherries are also grown here.
    Marmara Covers the European part of Turkey and the northwestern part of Anatolia. It is also called the 'Garden of Istanbul "mentioned. This hilly area is densely populated part of Turkey. Agriculture is varied, including rice, grapes, olives and peaches. Here temperate climate prevails, this means that it is warm but the wind also brings a lot of cooling. Winters are wet with much rain and very occasionally snow.
    The Aegean region is mountainous with many pine forests. The Mediterranean climate brings hot summers and mild winters. Here, more than 50% of Turkey's tobacco production comes. Other important products are cotton and olives.
    The Mediterranean Located in southern Anatolia. These reveal a Mediterranean climate, although it is a few degrees warmer than the Aegean. In this area are the most important resorts from Turkey. There is a lot of cotton grown, and citrus.
    Central Anatolia Is a plateau at 1000 meters above mean sea level. This area is in the middle of Turkey. The barren plains are mainly used for grazing goats and sheep. There is here a continental climate with large temperature differences, both in summer and winter, as in day and night. Summers are hot and dry, winters cold.
    Eastern Anatolia Is the largest and highest region. The heights vary here from 1500 to 2000 meters. There is also Mount Ararat, the highest mountain in Turkey. This area is sparsely populated, because of the long harsh winters. Summers are hot with extreme drought.
    Southeastern Anatolia Eastern Anatoliais just as a rough area, with hot summers and cold winters. Using irrigation are rice, wheat and vegetables grown.
